Mit 57 Teilnehmerstaaten in Nordamerika, Europa und Asien ist die OSZE – die Organisation für Sicherheit und Zusammenarbeit in Europa – die weltweit größte regionale Sicherheitsorganisation. Die OSZE setzt sich durch politischen Dialog über gemeinsame Werte und durch nachhaltige praktische Arbeit dafür ein, dass mehr als eine Milliarde Menschen in den Genuss von Stabilität, Frieden und Demokratie kommen.

Das Büro der Vereinten Nationen in Wien ist der dritte Sitz der Organisation und wurde am 1. Januar 1980 nach dem Sitz der Vereinten Nationen in New York und dem Büro der Vereinten Nationen in Genf gegründet. Rund 5.000 Mitarbeiter aus über 125 Ländern arbeiten für die verschiedenen Organisationen im Vienna International Centre (VIC), allgemein bekannt als "UNO City".
