Citizenship

On January 1, 2009, a new law on Luxembourg citizenship came into force.

The aim of this legislative reform was to adapt the citizenship law to changes in Luxembourg’s society over the past decades, and to contribute to a stronger integration of foreigners living in Luxembourg. To help meet this aim, the principle of dual citizenship was implemented into Luxembourg law. In addition, the procedures for acquiring and reacquiring Luxembourg citizenship were simplified and harmonized.
