Luxemburg’s economy relies on a number of important branches and is characterized by the industrial and services sector in particular. During the second half of the 20th century, the Grand Duchy experienced steady economic growth, unprecedented price stability and low unemployment. Thanks to its geographic location and multilingual population, the Grand Duchy offers an ideal investment environment. Since the mid-1970s, it has evolved into one of the world’s leading financial centers, while numerous industrial companies operating in high-tech fields have also made Luxembourg their home.

After the country’s steel industry fell into crisis during the 1970s, Luxembourg’s economic policy goals changed, with the fundamental policy aim ever since being one of  economic diversification. The development of a specialized industrial branch focusing on chemicals, and concentrating on rubber and plastic processing, has been accompanied by a number of automotive suppliers and companies within the health sector setting up operations in Luxembourg. Due to the central geographic location, more and more transport and logistics companies have also settled in the Grand Duchy.
